Lecture and Book Signing: Astronomy Picture of the Day
September 26, 7:30 pm — The Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th St., Philadelphia
The Rittenhouse Astronomical Society will host Robert Nemiroff,
creator, lead writer, and editor of Astronomy Picture of the Day. The
meeting will begin with an astronomy lesson showing a graphic
representation of the Big Bang, and conclude with the rooftop
observatory open after the lecture, weather permitting. The meetings
are free and all are invited to attend.

Travel to ancient Egypt to see how science was used to tell time, make
a workable calendar, and align huge buildings. You'll learn about the
connection the ancient Egyptians felt with the stars and astronomical
phenomena. And thanks to the time Digital Theater's production team
spent on location in Egypt taking photographs and measurements, you'll
see some of the most spectacular temples and tombs of the ancient

The Delaware Valley Amateur Astronomers is a group of enthusiastic
hobbyists who live in and around Philadelphia. All Star Parties are on
Saturday evenings, and run from sunset until 11:00 pm, weather
permitting. At a Star Party one can look through many types and sizes
of telescopes and see astronomical wonders most people have never
seen. We often look at faraway galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae,
as well as things closer to home such as the moon and planets. The
telescopes and equipment belong to DVAA members. Star Parties are a
public service of the DVAA and are free. Star parties are cancelled if
the weather is cloudy or rainy. For more information, e-mail DVAA
